This fun recipe is inspired by my talented friend Sine @foodbites , whose tutorial had me running 🏃‍♀️ to the store to buy ingredients to recreate these delicious burrata snowmen. Although I used fresh mozzarella instead of burrata, the outcome was still the same – a festive and adorable twist on a traditional Caprese salad 🥗 that will impress your guests and add some cheer to your holiday table.

Why You’ll Love This Burrata Snowman

This appetizer is not only quick and easy to prepare , but it’s also highly adaptable . You can experiment with different types of cheese 🧀, toppings, and vegetables to customize the salad. This is an opportunity to unleash your inner child and have some fun!

How to Prepare This Burrata Snowman

🧀 Place the fresh mozzarella balls in pairs on a large plate or platter, stacking them one on top of the other like a snowman.

🥕 Slice a carrot and trim it into two triangle-shaped noses. Place a carrot nose on each snowman.

☃️ Use peppercorns to create the eyes, mouth and buttons on each snowman.

🌿 Use the basil to make a scarf by sticking it between the two mozzarella balls (between the head and body).

🍅 Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and then arrange the tomatoes around the snowmen on the platter. Scatter in some bocconcini and basil leaves.

🧂 Lastly, top the tomatoes and bocconcini mix with a drizzle of olive oil, balsamic glaze and a generous sprinkle of salt . Enjoy!

Nonna’s Tip ☃️

If you don’t have balsamic glaze handy, you can make your own by reducing balsamic vinegar with a bit of sugar until it thickens.

Burrata Snowman Variations and Substitutions

Make this recipe your own by implementing some of these suggestions:

  • Instead of mozzarella, you can use actual burrata for a creamier texture. You can also experiment with different cheeses 🧀, such as goat cheese or feta cheese. Alternatively, you can cut circles out of any firmer cheese you like to create the snowmen.
  • Try creating the nose by using other vegetables, such as a small piece of radish or red bell pepper, instead of the carrot.
  • If you don’t like peppercorns or don’t have them handy, you could use small pieces of black olives for the eyes, mouth and buttons.
  • Instead of the basil leaves 🌿, the scarf can be made out of spinach or lettuce leaves.
  • Instead of the cheery tomatoes , feel free to use sliced heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers or roasted red peppers for a different flavour profile.
  • Swap the olive oil for chilly oil, truffle-infused oil or garlic oil for a unique taste.
